Supporting the Health & Wellbeing of Dancers
With over 15 years of experience teaching dancers within Higher Education, Ashley's work is grounded in evidence-based processes that emphasise training in a balanced and mindful way connecting directly to what is experienced in the studio and on stage.
Classes and workshops are tailored to individual clients or students and can be practical, theoretical, or a combination of both. Practically she works with dancers using Pilates conditioning as the basis for complementary training with dance science knowledge underpinning her approach. Lecture-based workshops and classes focus on the application of kinesiology, psychology, and somatic practices within the dance context.
Through this work dancers will gain a better understanding of how to train in a safe and effective way that will enable them to push boundaries whilst also taking care of their physical and mental health.
Dance for Health
As a researcher, Ashley investigates how dance can be used as a means to health and wellbeing for other populations including those with neurological and neurodivergent conditions.
She advocates for collaborative, person-centered approaches to research that place participants' voices and their embodied experiences at the heart of the work.
